DPS-Modern Indian School kicked off Science Exhibition Quest - 2009 in the senior wing of the school on Thursday 26th Feb. 2009.
Students from class III to XII had organized themselves in groups to make various science projects, charts, etc. The exhibition was inaugurated by the School President Mr. Hasan Chogule and the chief Guest Mr. Nilangshu Dey. Also present for the inaugural ceremony were Principal Ms. Mattu and Mr. Yasir Nainar (Senior vice President, DPS-MIS)
Mr. Nilangshu Dey who judged the Exhibitions is a Science Graduate in Physics and Masters degree in Engineering, a Gold Medalist, having 29 years of professional experience in various major Industries in India, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar. Presently working in the Engineering department of Qatar Petroleum, Mesaieed. He is the Founder of Instrumentation Systems and Automation Society – Qatar Section, a world wide international body of Instrumentation and Control engineers and deeply involved in leading the Indian Community activities at Qatar in various Socio cultural, Sports, Recreational and Charitable sectors.
For the seniors’ category (classes VIII, X and XII) the other judges for the exhibits were Mr. Gul Hasan (Chemistry teacher), Mr. Pawan Gupta (Physics teacher) and Ms. Amanpreet (Biology teacher).
The Exhibits for the Middle School (classes VI and VII), the judges were Mr. Liew Tyson (Geologist, Qatar Petroleum) and Ms. Amanpreet, while the judges for the Juniors (classes III, IV and V) were Ms. Shubha Anupindi and Ms. Shibanti.
The projects exhibited by the different classes consist of working and non-working models. They were as follows:
Types of Houses, Models on Body Parts, Display of types of leaves (class III), Life Cycle of Butterfly (class IV), Simple machines (models), satellites (class V), Models on Body parts (Systems), Water Recycle plants, Bio Gas Plant, Wind mills models, Layers of Earth (class VII), Pollution- Air, Water, Noise, Sources of Energy, Agriculture versus Industries, Types of Irrigation (class VIII), Organic Battery, Chemical Garden, Vardigraph Generator (class X), the Dogs sniff Cancer, Drugs and Alcohols, Path of an e- using a CRT and a mechanical model, Robotic Car and Roller coaster (class XII). Other Exhibits included were Acupressure which was operated using the electric circuit, Sewage Treatment Plant, Generators for production of electricity, Levitation System’s Power Supply (Maglev Train), the History of human Evolution Circulation of Blood, food pyramid, global warming etc. Students also put up a power point presentation on the renewable sources of energy, obesity and the effects of music on the human brain.
The Judges’ Panel for Power point Presentation was Ms. Jaishree Sethupaty, Ms. Mythil (class VI), Mr. Ratheesh, Mr. Thomas (classes VII and VIII), Ms. Vinaya (Headmistress- DPS-MIS), and Mr. Manoj Sarin (classes X and XII).
The Exhibits continued to be on display till 7.00 pm on Thursday. A large number of parents visited the exhibition. The Science Department led by Ms. Soma Bhattacharjee, Coordinator, Science Department and her entire team of science teachers - Ms. Preeti Modi, Ms. Anjali Pandita, Ms. Jessy Joseph, Ms. Navneetha, Ms. Mary Cruz, Ms. Shobha Lakshmi, Ms. Bonhi Chatterjee, Ms. Vijayshree, Ms. Swaranprabha Patra, Ms. Manisha, Mr. Ratheesh, Ms. Mou bera (senior activity coordinator), Ms. Shibanti Bhowmik (Academic Coordinator, Middle School) and Ms. Vinaya Jaydev (Headmistress, DPS-MIS) coordinated to make the Science Exhibition Quest- 2009 a grand success.
The Science Department also thank Mr. Amit, Mr. Manoj S, Mr. Nadeem, Mr. S Patra, Mr. Rithick, Mr. Sudhakar, Ms. Marie L, the wonderful parents, all the students and the support staff for all the help rendered.
