DPS-MIS Conducts the 6th Edition of DPSMUN 2024 Conference with a Commitment to Nurturing Responsible Global Citizens 2024
DPS Modern Indian School organized the 6th edition of DPS MUN 2024 Conference from 26 to 28 September, 2024. The three-day event commenced with a grand opening ceremony, featuring an inspiring address by Principal Ms. Asna Nafees who highlighted the vital role of diplomacy and collaboration in addressing global challenges. Around 220 delegates from various Indian and international schools across Qatar, accompanied by their MUN Coordinators, represented their respective nations, contributing to the ceremony’s air of dignity and global unity.
Day 1 – The first day of the conference witnessed passionate and dynamic debates on global challenges such as climate change, human rights, and economic development, The delegates, with a remarkable display of professionalism, presented position papers, negotiated alliances, and began drafting resolutions, setting a strong foundation for a productive and dynamic conference.
 
Day 2 - On the second day of DPSMUN 2024, the committees—UNSC, GA 1, GA 2, HRC, WHO, SDG 13, and CCPCJ—addressed a broad range of critical global issues, including the Syrian Civil War, autonomous weapons systems, debt trap diplomacy, human trafficking, indigenous rights, healthcare for displaced persons, climate-resilient agriculture, firearm smuggling, and the illicit trade of cultural property. The atmosphere was charged with energy as delegates passionately discussed complex global issues, showcasing their unwavering commitment to bold, innovative, and collaborative solutions. Their passion and drive left a profound impact on everyone involved, with guest teachers commending the event’s seamless organization and the students' exceptional level of engagement.
 
Day 3- The third day of the conference was marked by rigorous debates, as delegates polished, finalised, and presented their resolutions across various committees. The atmosphere was charged with energy and anticipation as delegates defended their positions, striving to find diplomatic solutions to global challenges. Tension in the committee rooms reached its zenith with the deliberation and discussion among chairs regarding who among their large pool of hard working delegates would be awarded the honour of “Best Delegate” and the two “Honourable Mention” awards, recognizing and appreciating the most deserving candidates.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the visit by the President of DPS-Modern Indian School, Mr. Yasir Nainar and our school’s beloved Principal, Ms. Asna Nafees, and the senior school Vice-Principal, Ms. Soma Bhattacharjee. They interacted fervently with the delegates and encouraged the organizing team to keep their spirits high and the conference lively.
CLOSING CEREMONY -DPS MUN 2024 culminated with a memorable closing ceremony, marking the conclusion of three days of engaging debates, diplomacy, and collaborative resolutions. In his address, the Chief Guest Mr George Thomas, Vice-President DPS MIS emphasized the importance of transforming learning into action, encouraging students to adopt sustainable practices in their everyday lives. Principal Ms. Asna Nafees, described DPS MUN as a powerful example of experiential learning, emphasizing how it fostered essential skills like diplomacy, public speaking, negotiation, and leadership, crucial for shaping informed and responsible global citizens. Through his video message, President DPSMIS Mr. Yasir Nainar applauded the efforts of the delegates and underlined the significance of leadership and diplomacy skills in developing a more equitable and sustainable future. He congratulated the DPS MIS team for the successful execution of the event.
The student ambassadors from various schools delivered thoughtful speeches, expressing their gratitude for the enriching experience A captivating performance by the school band followed, setting a celebratory tone. The Head Chairs of each committee addressed the assembly, reflecting on the accomplishments of the conference before the much-anticipated awards were presented. Best Delegates and two Honourable Mentions were awarded to outstanding participants from each committee, recognizing their exceptional performance. The student volunteers from the Art and Photography teams were felicitated for their contributions, and the Head of Admins Aashi Gupta and Edwin Daniel expressed gratitude for the seamless organization. The newsletter, providing a glimpse into the event, was released by the dignitaries.
The President of the General Assembly, Janavi Rajan, and the Deputy President of General Assembly, Prabhav Venkatesh as well as the Deputy Secretaries-General Libertin Nijel and Aamina Anjum delivered speeches, highlighting key moments of the conference. A video montage, capturing the best moments of the event was played, followed by the Secretary-General offered closing remarks, bringing the conference to a proud and successful conclusion.The ceremony was conducted by the two Secretary Generals, Piyali Mohapatra and Abhimanyu Gupta, and the Head of Operations, Sharvi Patwardhan.
A unique conference in its own, DPSMUN is an educational simulation that includes significant research, logical analysis, communication and writing skills and leadership qualities, and allows students to learn about diplomacy, foreign affairs, and the United Nations.
